Inspired by Filoli gardens, this once flat backyard was transformed by the introduction of arbors, steps, and raised beds to encourage discovery and movement throughout the property. The remnants of an avocado grove and multiple citrus trees planted by the original owners were incorporated into the design.  Seasonal changes alternately expose and obscure views creating an ever-changing landscape of color and interest, as well as the production of fruits and vegetables for the gardeners’ delights, and sustenance for wildlife. Within the garden walls, bouquets are gathered, parties are hosted, and respite is taken; while outside the eastern wall, spare cuttings are planted and spare seeds are cast about and given the chance to flourish--or not.
