This yard is often described as “Zen'' due to a tranquil and calm aesthetic.  If you have been to this house on a previous tour you get to see how the front garden has been re-imagined to remove a thirsty lawn while maintaining the previous Japanese style.  Come see how California natives, grasses, succulents, and other low-water plants combine perfectly with bonsai’ed black pines, Japanese maples, and wisteria. A beautiful wooden gate leads to a lovely front courtyard with staghorn ferns, Japanese maples, mondo grass, and a bamboo/rock water fountain.  Move on to a second courtyard with a fountain that continues the Japanese style of bringing nature indoors.  The comfortable outdoor space is highlighted by a dining deck made of ipe hardwood.  Succulents are a favorite for bordering the lawn and the raised vegetable bed.  The single side yard includes Hawaiian ti plants, palm trees, plumerias, white ginger, banana trees, bromeliads, a wooden tiki, potted citrus trees, a worm bin, and a potting bench.  Whimsy can be found throughout with fish swimming in a bed of succulents, a succulent window-shutter, and Zen statues.
